General Info

The Handbook of Texas Online, a publication of the University of Texas, offers a brief history of our city that will orient you to its cultural heritage—a heritage that we celebrate in a way that is unparalleled in any other city. The Wikipedia page about our city is also an amazing resource.

In addition to some of the premier events, like Fiesta San Antonio, the Texas Folklife Festival, and the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, information about many another event can be found on the City of San Antonio Office of Cultural Events Web site. More links to Arts, Cultural, Sports and other area attractions is available in the Area Info section of the site.

San Antonio is also in a good location for quick access to other points of interest. Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, and the Gulf beaches near Corpus Cristi are each only about a 2½ hour drive. Ciudad Acuna, Mexico, across the border from Del Rio and nearby Lake Amistad, and Eagle Pass, location of the only casino in Texas,* and its neighbor to the south, Piedras Negras, Mexico, are about the same distance.

* The Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino has the status of a reservation and is operated by the real Kickapoo Indians, not those of Al Capp's Li'l Abner.
